Scion iQ EV Will Not Make A Public Debut

Image via Wikipedia

The Scion iQ EV is set to make its way to American marketplaces in 2012, kind of. The all electric vehicle will only be available to fleets and ride-share programs. The general public will not have access to them.

Toyota, the parent of Scion, is still refusing to release a quick charge unit, despite a growing demand. The company’s excuse makes sense to a point. The SAE has net developed a standard for quick charge units and Toyota does not want to have to develop and build multiple units until there is a standard in place.

Well, it would be nice to have an all electric crossover on the market that the general public might be able to afford. Let’s hope Toyota recognizes that potential market and changes its plans for the Scion iQ EV.
