Did the iCar Dream Die with Steve Jobs?

Steve Jobs (yes, the Steve Jobs that co-founded Apple) did not stop dreaming as he conquered the downloadable-music, cell-phone and tablet worlds. The turtle-necked visionary dreamed of creating his own take on the passenger car, one to take on the auto industry, one to rule them all.

According to Apple board member Mickey Drexler, though he never got around to designing his iCar, Jobs’ passenger car would have “been probably 50 percent of the market.” Talking about Jobs’ auto desires, Drexler said, “Look at the car industry; it’s a tragedy in America. Who is designing the cars? Steve’s dream before he died was to design an iCar.”
