VW Jetta SportWagen Headed for Major Changes

While production of the VW Jetta SportWagen is scheduled to take a year-long break starting this fall, word is that when it returns in 15 or 16 months from now, it will be as a new vehicle.

First of all, according to VW marketing executive Rainer Michel, its name will change to be the SportWagen, the Golf SportWagen or the Jetta SportWagen. Also, the new VW Jetta SportWagen, regardless of what it ends up to be called, will be fitted with the all-wheel-drive system that was first introduced on its Alltrack concept car at the New York Auto Show. This will increase both the SportWagen’s ground clearance and its price.
