Lincoln, Mercury Offering Early Lease Ends

Ford Motor Co. is letting lessess of its Lincoln MKZs and Mercury brand models out of their leases early in a move to increase sluggish sales and move out stagnant inventory. The deal allows leasers of certain models to back out of their leases up to six months early. Moreover, MKZ lessees can trade in for the 2012 MKZ model. This is being done to clear the decks for the soon-to-be rolled out MKZ luxury sedan.

Those in the know may be surprised to read that there are still Mercury lessees driving the road. After all, Ford killed the brand two years ago. However, there remain a few folks here and there leasing the dead brand; they are now able to trade in for Lincoln models.

Talking about these moves, Edmunds.com auto analyst Michelle Krebs said, “It’s not an unusual practice where you have a new model and, in this case, a new model that is redefining the brand. And with Mercury, they are trying to keep those customers in the Ford family.”
